Lifting the Rock on ACORN

February 19, 2010

Congressman Darrell Issa is out with a blockbuster new report that lifts the rock on ACORN’s corrupt activities and its connection with the powerful Service Employees International Union (SEIU).  The report makes four key findings:

  • “First, ACORN and SEIU’s illegal agreements, and the crimes committed in furtherance of these agreements, constitute a criminal conspiracy.”
  • “Second, there is a pattern, signature or ‘trade secret’ of corruption common to all ACORN affiliates called ‘Muscle for the Money.’”
  • “Third, ACORN, as a corporation, is responsible for thousands of fraudulent voter registrations throughout the United States.”
  • “Fourth, ACORN contributed to the risky lending that led to the financial collapse.”

The media has mostly ignored Issa’s report, but a summary can be read at Human Events.

Some real research on the 50 state attorney/judge discipline bureaucracies will explain Acorn, many of the reasons for skyrocketing costs of health care in America and much of the corruption in today’s politics, law and “free enterprise” which is unraveling the moral, ethical and societal fabric of America. But simply whining and crying in our beer won’t change a thing -, now or later -, except to let the problem get progressively worse. Strong, aggressive, consistent and unified majority electorate action -, starting with aggressive, broad based and loop hole proof 50 state attorney/judge accountability and discipline reform is the very first place we must start the clean up process. That is crucial and indispensable because the lawyers (and lawyer/judges) are in fact the “tail which is wagging the societal dog” in America’s politics, law, free enterprise and social values.
    .
The secret to positive, successful and lasting clean up of America’s legal system is a mandatory majority of responsible and reputable NON lawyer, registered voters dominating, administrating and operating the 50 state attorney discipline bureaucracies. These reputable and responsible NON lawyer citizen members of the 50state attorney/judge discipline bureaucracies would be authorized by Direct Democracy electorate referendum to investigate formal complaints filed against attorneys and judges by registered voter private citizens.

These non lawyer members would also be authorized and empowered by Direct Democracy electorate referendum to determine, impose and enforce formal disciplinary sanctions -, up to and including disbarment upon attorneys. These non lawyer members
must also be authorized and empowered to make their findings against an attorney or judge public via the media as well as via “full disclosure response” to registered voter/consumer citizen inquiries.

That process would serve to honestly, correctively and effectively
“discipline” incompetent, unethical and/or corrupt attorneys and judges “in the marketplace and in the public eye” exactly like credit reports “discipline” common citizens for being a day late on a payment, defaulting on a loan or “bouncing a $50.00 check”.

Only when all lawyers and judges are held to the same strict ethical and “full disclosure” accountability standards and subjected to the same painful and publicly humiliating consequences for violations of those ethics and standards that “average citizens are” will they merit our trust, respect and support.
